The 5 Best Amsterdam Clubs
Nov 14 , 2011
Whether you’re looking for dancing, live music, or late night conversation in a quiet bar, Amsterdam hotspots have got you covered. Here are some Amsterdam clubs that can deliver a great night out.
Paradiso
Located in old renovated church, this gigantic club contains four floors, a large balcony, and one of the best stages for live music. Acts are extremely varied; you can catch Mos Def and Toby Keith here. However, the evening is just beginning as the live music ends. DJs spin house until the early morning.
Natchttheater Sugar Factory
Live music, dance, performance art...it's just a little night theater (nachttheater) for a progressive crowd every night at the Sugar Factory. Plus, this club actually has its own manifesto in homage to the Surrealists. Wacky, cool, and laid back–you don't have to be high fashion to come here, but you better be prepared for something weird.
Melkweg
Crowded and Fun, Melkweg (Milky Way) is a legendary dance club on the Amsterdam scene. But there's more to the Milky Way than just dancing. Melkweg hosts film screenings, live performances and "theme" nights, like a wildly popular Latin Dance party. Techno parties often sell out well before doors open, so plan ahead.
Jimmy Woo
Who is Jimmy Woo? He's a fictional underworld tycoon, and this club is his extravagant hangout. This super trendy club features an oriental-style lounge and a mind-blowing dance floor with a ceiling featuring over 12,000 lights. Face control is strict, so wear your best threads.
Bimhuis
A top European jazz venue, the Bimhuis has been hosting diverse audiences since 1974. With a focus on progressive and improvisational music, Bimhuis always features an eclectic mix of performances on its calendar. Charles Mingus played there and so has Wynton Marsalis. But you're just as likely to catch the "next big thing."
For a more laid-back feel to the city, but with the drinking attitude, be sure to visit some of Amsterdam's best bars.
