The Best Amsterdam Restaurants

Nov 14 , 2011

Looking for the best Amsterdam restaurants for your upcoming trip? Check out these eateries, ranging from casual to fine dining, during your stay.

De Kas

This Dutch fusion restaurant isn't cheap, but it's consistently rated one of the best in Amsterdam, thanks to its fresh "farm to table" aesthetic. De Kas has it's own greenhouse and garden nearby, where chefs grow the Mediterranean vegetables, herbs, and edible flowers found in their unique creations. The menu changes every day.

Pancake Bakery

A great, affordable place for breakfast or lunch, the Pancake Bakery, located in a rustic old warehouse, serves up tradition Dutch pancakes with a variety of toppings and fillings. For breakfast, try a banana and Nutella (hazelnut spread) pancake or, for the more adventurous, a banana and bacon combo. For lunch, try one of the many "International Pancakes," like the Egyptian pancake topped with lamb, paprika, garlic sauce, and salad.

Restaurant Blauw

One of the most popular Indonesian restaurants in town, you might have to wait to get a table at Restaurant Blauw, but you won't be disappointed. An affordable and stylish restaurant located near Vondelpark, Blauw delivers truly memorable dining experience thanks to its celebrated Rijstafel (Rice Table), a wonderful sampler of Indonesian curries and delights. Vegetarians will find a lot on the menu to enjoy.

Ciel Bleu

A foodie's paradise, Ciel Bleu is consistently ranked as one of the best Amsterdam restaurants, as evidenced by its two star Michelin rating. Be warned. This is your night to splurge. The French-inspired menu changes four times a year, and the location, on the 23rd floor of the Hotel Okura, features spectacular views of the city below.

De Stadskantine

Serving up cheap, Dutch cuisine, De Stadskantine is a great place to eat with the locals. There is a very limited menu daily: two meat dishes and one vegetarian on offer at the self-serve buffet, but the food is fresh and hearty, and a plate costs lest than ten Euros.

Before eating at any of the restaurants listed, make sure you have an understanding of Dutch food and what you can expect to see on the menu.
